Why We Use Real Salt in Re-Lyte and Why It Matters

There are quite a few features that set Re-Lyte apart in the sea of electrolyte drinks, but here’s what we think is the most important—it contains our unrefined, ancient sea salt Real Salt.

Now, there are a lot of electrolyte products that contain salt….even some that contain sea salt. But in our opinion, there’s no salt quite like Real Salt. Here’s why Real Salt is different and why we think it’s the most important ingredient in Re-Lyte.

What’s So Special About Real Salt?

In prehistoric times, an inland sea known as the Sundance Sea covered what’s now Redmond, Utah. That sea is long gone, but its remnants include the large, pristine, underground salt deposit where we mine Real Salt.

The source of Real Salt makes it pretty unique for a couple of reasons. First, it’s had far less exposure to manmade pollutants. Sea salts are typically exposed to pollutants and contaminants found in the modern ocean. But Real Salt has remained buried under protective layers of ancient volcanic ash and clay for centuries.

Instead, we use a food-grade, carbide-tipped rotary head to grind the salt off the walls. Once Real Salt leaves the mine, we don’t add anything to it or take anything away from it. We leave it the way nature made it.

Most salt is heat-processed, bleached, and stripped of natural minerals. Salt often contains additives, like dextrose (sugar), anti-caking agents, and synthetic iodine too. But Real Salt is unrefined, additive-free, contains 60+ trace minerals that support your health, and only contains the iodine nature gave it.

If one of these components gets out of balance, you could end up dehydrated or with a condition called hyponatremia (aka overhydration)....either one can cause organ damage or even death.

Clearly, you don’t want to mess around when it comes to the two most important elements of hydration. We’d venture to guess that you already go out of your way to drink clean water from a healthy source to stay hydrated and keep your body functioning well.
